Say, you wouldn't be hiring would you?

I know the workplace has changed and all that but the more things change the more they remain the same. You still have to go out there, hat in hand and knock on doors.

Yes, emails, resumes on line, job searches on line, using the internet, yep all hi tech stuff but you still have to go out there. It had been about ten years or so since I last did this and I have only one thing to say.

I don't want to.

But I will.

I went to a job fair today. About ten companies you have never heard of looking for people to do what they do.
But not with you. And that was fine with me. But I owed it to myself to leave no stone unturned.

And I want to do something different in sales. I know that tried and true stuff in the past has paid the bills but a change would be nice.

to be continued...

a beer perhaps?

Call Me Unemployed, A New Beginning?

I resigned last Thursday from my job. I did it to save my sanity and my health.
I was certain I was next on the purge list, most likely next week.
I was able to leave with some of my dignity intact.
Some but not all.

But the pressure is on to find a new job, maybe my last one as I ain't getting any younger kiddies!
There is panic in the household as the big bills and expenses will continue to roll in. Short term, we will be okay.
Long term it will/not could get ugly.

Do I have it in me?
Does all my years (30+) in sales mean anything?
And here is a big one
Do I have it in me to start over, reinvent myself one more time?
I think I do. But it is of a solo nature of mental support and confidence.
I am not the type to stay forever at any job.

Being out of work is like passing by a car wreck. It is painful to watch, you hope the person is okay and will be alright and you wish them all the best.

And you are glad it was not you.

My old job has been posted on line. Any wonder I came home so very tired every night?
You can read about it here.

wish me luck

What If You Had Your Big Moment On Stage...

If my number was called, if it was my turn in the sun, would would I have or do?

I can't think of anything that I do that would make people rise as one to cheer and applaud and shout from the rooftops, "he is great at something!"

a sobering thought as one gets older.

Sunday Music-Victory-Andre Rieu & Bond

The electronic string instruments give off a rock guitar feel to the music. The fact that they are beautiful and talented did not influence me at all. much.

The Firing Will Continue Until Morale Improves

Like a death march our store continues to lose people. Some should have been gone along time ago and will be not be missed. Some are leaving of their own accord, some have been let go, and some are waiting to be let go.

I am in the last group. Sales are down. It must not be the corporation's decisions, management directives, or the other big box who is cleaning our clock.

Nope, it is you and me. We are the cause.

Do more with less. Cross over to other departments where we have no idea what we are doing. Limit our time to keep the store clean and neat and well stocked and cut back on the manpower we need to get the job done.

Raise the bar on what needs to be done until we can not do it and then fire us for not doing it.

They will remake the store in their own image. Cheaper, slower, weaker.
and fail once again.

stay tuned

Talent, Beauty, and Electronic String Instruments Equal Scala

I love finding talented people. As I watch I can feel emotions rising up and I want to stand up and applaud and cheer.
Most people, myself included, lack the dedication and the will to persevere to make the effort, well, effortless.
But few of us know what we really want to do with our lives.
I had not heard of electronic violins until know.

Here is the audition. I think they were ready.

and to continue

Flip Flops The Scourge Of The Shoe World

Aside from protecting the feet
from the hot sands of the beach, they are useless

clip clop
flop flop
so clumsy
ever try to run somewhere
 wearing them?
slippery when wet
it takes an effort
to hold them on the foot
creates a big space
between the toes
large enough to hold a cigar
or cigarette
let the mind wander for a moment with that thought...
and lastly
they don't make the legs look good
I know this first hand

I looked in the mirror
nope, nothing
