Finally science has an answer!
Why do we act different?
First the woman:
And then the man:
Once again science has come to the rescue!

My Wish List Is Small
My wish list is small. A 1963 Corvette Stingray. My favorite color is red. This is the only year the car had the split rear window.
There is no room for the young blond option in this car. Older brunettes may apply.
No, I have never driven in one. The split rear window would take time getting used to while driving.
A man needs a want that doesn't need to be fulfilled. This is mine. A car like this is not a low hanging fruit. They are very expensive, way out of my price range, not very practical, all the more reason to have one.
Someday I will have a less expensive Corvette, they are out there.
No, this is not a mid-life crisis car. I have wanted this car since 1963.
Any year from 1963-67 will do, because it was a very special time for the Corvette.
I am not an expert on cars, but I know what I like. A love affair like no other!

Christmas Shopping
time of year
shopping time
olden days
weather would put
one in the mood
days grow shorter
nights grow longer
had ideas
what to buy
look in wallet
fiances meager
thoughts flittered about
thinking what said
likes and dislikes
many to buy for
what to get
plenty of time
will get to it
shopping at the mall
shuddering at the thought
not man's forte
hunter not gatherer
pressure builds
must get done
how many days
until Christmas
oh my
last day
time gone
time wasted
off to shop
shelves are bare
must buy now
on the run
store to store
one for this one
one for that one
sweating now
clock is ticking
music in background
all a blur
dragging bags
doors close soon
one left to buy for
as see on TV
that will do
done
that wasn't bad
shopping done
six hours or less
that was fun
wrap the gifts?
oh no!

You Get Old
I am doing my best to get out of the funk that I have been in for awhile. The holidays usually get to me, can't wait until they are over. Retail will do that, I guess. Kids grown up is another. Birthdays, sometimes. But I found this article in the September, 2009 issue of Men's Journal that may give me a helping hand.
Pat Jordan is 68. Although he is older, some of the thoughts are the same. Of course, it is a guy's perspective, because that is who I am.

Some Colorful Quotes
The Smartest Things Ever Said About Survival
Men let themselves be hanged without a struggle for life...
We do the world's will not our own.
George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman
Years ago, manhood was an oppurtunity for achievemnet, and now it is a problem to be overcome.
Garrison Keller
The Book of Guys
There is, of course, no reason for the existence of the male sex except that sometimes one needs help with moving the piano.
Dame Rebecca West
Sunday Telegraph, 1970
I think we should consider traditional gender roles. You gather the laundry, dishes, and diapers, and I will hunt for bison...and porn on the Internet.
Don Corteses as Jimmy Cox
on Rock Me, Baby
I'm one of the world's great survivors. I'll always survive because I've got the right combination of wit, grit, and bullshit.
Don King, quoted in the Sunday Times

Golf Poem
As I ready myself for another day of work in retail, on my birthday, someone sent me this email and I thought I would post it. No heavy lifting today. enjoy. Author unknown.
Golf Poem
In My Hand I Hold A Ball,
White And Dimpled, Rather Small.
Oh, How Bland It Does Appear,
This Harmless Looking Little Sphere.
By Its Size I Could Not Guess,
The Awesome Strength It Does Possess.
But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell,
I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell.
My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same,
Since I Chose To Play This Stupid Game.
It Rules My Mind For Hours On End,
A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend.
It Has Made Me Yell, Curse And Cry,
I Hate Myself And Want To Die.
It Promises A Thing Called Par,
If I Can Hit It Straight And Far.
To Master Such A Tiny Ball,
Should Not Be Very Hard At All.
But My Desires The Ball Refuses,
And Does Exactly As It Chooses.
It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies,
And Even Disappears Before My Eyes.
Often It Will Have A Whim,
To Hit A Tree Or Take A Swim.
With Miles Of Grass On Which To Land,
It Finds A Tiny Patch Of Sand.
Then Has Me Offering Up My Soul,
If Only It Would Find The Hole.
It's Made Me Whimper Like A Pup,
And Swear That I Will Give It Up.
And Take To Drink To Ease My Sorrow,
But The Ball Knows ... I'll Be Back Tomorrow.
Stand proud you noble swingers of clubs and losers of balls.... A recent study found the average golfer walks about 900 miles a year.Another study found golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year That means, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon. Kind of makes you proud. Almost feel like a hybrid.

Rerun of Some Past Posts
Reflecting, it seems my life as gone in a full circle, and there are some empty spots that should have been filled a long time ago. It is almost like I am starting over, not what I was looking for.
It hasn't all been bad lately. I have been working out everyday, getting in better shape, stronger, losing weight in the process, and many compliments lately, handsome, intelligent, and so on, which makes me wonder what I was looking like before? Oh well.
I have made some friends on line here, and I am afraid when all things are said and done, I will lose some too.
Here is one of my first poems. I will be going back in time for some others in days to come. Thank you for you time.
3 Billion Go To Bed Hungry, 3 Billion Go To Bed Looking For Love
http://rjacobpost.blogspot.com/2009/06/3-billion-go-to-bed-hungry-3-billion-go.html
to have love
to lose love
like grasping at the fog
to find a kindered spirit
out of reach
out of mind
the comfort of years later
never to be shared
the laughter
the cries
footpath for two
walked as one
words can be hollow
when they can't be heard
words dance in your head
somebody's love song
better than yours
what is meant to be
no truer words
heavy heart to be lighter
journey without end
hand in hand
what is meant to be
Sunrise Sunset
the sun slowly rising
creeping upward
ever so slowly
light streaking across
the sky
mingled in with
scattered clouds
bits of pink and orange
playing hide and seek
nature starting its
stretch
morning yawn
still a chill
in the air
muffled sounds
of the waves
rolling to the shores
soft cries of the birds
as they search
for their daily food
circling overhead
the sight of a fish
breaking the water
the quiet movement
of people slowly
making way to join others
in a singular way
along the sands
looking forward
to a new day
looking for change
or continuation
of what has been
bestowed upon them
for some
the search goes on
the sun heavy with
a full day behind it
slowly gathering
downward heading
reaching for the horizon
the expectations
of the day
maybe fullfilled
the darkness creeping
from behind
pushing at the colors
of the soon
night time sky
a quiet time begins
birds flutter about
searching for the nest
energy of the day
all but expelled
fish drift off to sleep
to the depths
they call home
some do gather
chairs for sand
drink in hand
slowly settle in
to watch nature's show
a stillness returns
words not uttered
lost in thought
light turns to dark
the cycle to return
the day wish to continue
or the hope for
a new begining
what is your wish
creeping upward
ever so slowly
light streaking across
the sky
mingled in with
scattered clouds
bits of pink and orange
playing hide and seek
nature starting its
stretch
morning yawn
still a chill

What Does Today Mean?
As I was cleaning out the garage for the umpteenth time today, I came upon a cerimonial flag that was used to drape the casket of my grandfather, who had served in WWI. I had forgotten about it, but I thought it was not to late to hang it outside today. It was folded up in a triangluar fashion and resting in a plastic pouch. It is too delicate to use often and not for long periods of time outside as it will not last long in the elements. It is still hanging as I write this post.
There was a note from my mother on why I got this flag of her father. My brother has my father's flag. But it got me thinking.
Like many other holidays, this day is used for sales in the retail sector. Mostly lip service is given to all the people who have died serving our country. Many more are crippled and scarred physically and mentally. There is a sense of abandonment of them when they return from the battlefield.
But why is there war? Think real hard about it. One side attacks, one side defends, one side retaliates. Turn plows into guns and bullets. "Money in them thar hills "when we battle each other. Death is profitable.
Religion has been the cause of many holy wars, goverments trying to act in a manly fashion, a percieved slight from someone. Politics, economics are other reasons. Trying to put a stranglehold on another country or people because they are different from us. The reasons don't matter. People die.
Wonderful slogans show up in time of war. Marketing death takes some doing. Us against them. Uncle Sam wants you!
The need to protect family, friends and home is real and should be done. But the "Are you with us or against us" is too simplistic, and never reveals the real reasons for warfare. There must be a purpose and a reason to lay down one's life for your country, whatever country that might be.
oh, the Veterans Day Sale runs through the weekend.

Under Attack?
Like many bloggers, I like to see where people are comming from, many times from around the world. I have touched on many a topic. FEEDJIT Live Traffic Feed is one of the many ways to track the website traffic. I had done a post about some clever sayings on a sports TV show that I had found amusing and had posted some of the more clever sayings.
A few days ago, I had noticed many people stopping by for that one post. Very popular, I guess. The next few days, more and more, until I realized that somehow, someone has used that post to attack this site. From around the world, again and again. So I have deleted that post. I won't mention it by name, you can see it yourself.
A first time for everything.

All Hail The Mighty Weed!
when did it start
the love of the lawn
endless sea of green
soft and tender
underfoot
natures carpet
to frolic upon
roll and play
used as feed
for many an animal
forage for a meal
in rolled in the weed
many shapes and forms
prickly or not
flowered or clinging
ground cover for some
spoiling the greenery
for many
yank pull cut dig
no stopping
the green vermin
stop it now
bring in the pro
a gunfighter of sorts
the weed killer
rode into town
with promises aplenty
worry no more
action it will take
machine or by man
lay down the spray
pellets by some
time and money
watch them die
but wait
like a swamp creature
from the deep
a lawn nightmare returns
jason could admire
a nightmare back
a summer scream uttered
didn't kill us all
badder then before
overcome the weak sister
lawn
let nature take its
course
do what it will
hail the mighty weed
and remember the 60's
grass is for smoking
the love of the lawn
endless sea of green
soft and tender

Be As Healthy As The Wealthy
I haven't borrowed a link or an article from elsewhere for sometime. But this was very interesting and informative. It is too long to copy here, so click on the title or the link to get there.
It is definitely something that can be achieved!

Thoughts of a Lifetime
time marches on
chance to reflect
where did it go
building blocks
started
by others
path taken
not chosen by self
do as I say
not as I do
over and over
the early years
do not think
outside the box
stay in
the box
creativity not
rewarded
be like others
some are lucky
why unknown
most likely to
voted by
wrestle with life
finding one's way
not easy
why we do
what we do
random chance
find a skill
hey your good
good enough
it would seem
fruitful endeavor
make yourself happy
first
chance to reflect
where did it go
